Thread: New CDs

  1. New CDs

What CDs did everyone get for Christmas? We got:

    Them Crooked Vultures
    Led Zepplin: Mothership
    Cake: Comfort Eagle
    Cake: Prolonging the Magic
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds: Best of
U2: No Line on the Horizon
Kate Miller-Heidke: Live at the Hi-Fi Bar
    Tegan & Sara: Sainthood
Flight of the Conchords: I told you I was freaky
    Emiliana Torrini: Me & Armini
    "It's a matter of time
    Before we lose the veil
    And this make-believe world
Is suddenly unravelled" ("Let's Pretend" by The Watermelon Tree)

  2. I didn't get any music for Christmas but when I got back there was a stack of stuff waiting for me and I made some other purchases as well:

    Them Crooked Vultures
    MxPx - Punk Rawk Christmas
    Havalina Rail Co.
The Violet Burning - I am a Stranger In This Place
    The Dead Milkmen - Beelzebubba
The Watchmen - In The Trees (very underrated Canadian alt-rock band from the 90s)
    WarChild 10
MxPx - Punk Rawk Christmas 7"
The Langley Sisters - Queen Bee 7"
Telegraph Canyon - The Tide and The Current
My Bloody Valentine - Isn't Anything
My Bloody Valentine - Before Loveless

  3. I got three of the beatles remasters:

    sgt. pepper
revolver (my fave beatles record...YEAH BABY!!!)
past masters (disc two has some of my fave songs of theirs)

I really want the white album, rubber soul and abbey road remasters.
Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me." Jesus

Forgot that showed up in my mailbox too. I was a little disappointed that they didn't include the CD bonus tracks with this version, although the liner notes were pretty cool.

  7. I used to like INXS as a teenager, but they kind of slipped off my radar around the time grunge/alt rock exploded. I have gaffled up most of their catalogue over the past 2 weeks as I have been in the mood for them. Most of these were pretty cheap:

    INXS
    The Swing
    Underneath the Colours
    Shabooh Shoobah
    Listen Like Thieves
Kick (rebought this, used to have the cassette)
X (got the rare remastered version)
    Welcome to Wherever You Are
    Full Moon, Dirty Hearts

and yes, even Switch (it was only $0.99)

Haven't found a cheap copy of Elegantly Wasted yet.

    Digital purchases:

The 88 - This Must Be Love
Slide - Dime Store Queer (single)

On a fast train nowhere, but we're not there yet.

  8. Re: Inxs, I have a lot of their stuff that I've collected over the past year. Elegently Wasted is a great song and a good album. Don't forget Michael Hutchence's solo album if you can track it down.

She did everything with a flourish
As if it were a masterpiece
The final stroke of her paint brush
Or simply walking down the street

It is great. I have always liked the Beatles, but never enough to really explore their catalog. I would love to have all of their stuff, just not a priority. I also have the Love compilation.

  11. I got:
    Splendora- "Bootleg Pre-release Version"
    and
Future of Forestry- "Travel II" EP

The Future of Forestry is easily the best EP I've heard in years. I feel almost silly, listening to the same six songs over and over again, but it's really that good.

Yeah, it is. I already had all the songs from Fluffy vs. Phantasmic, but it's cool to have the standalone EP as well. That cover of Eyes Without a Face is perfect.

  14. Stevie Wonder - Number Ones
The Pixies - Wave of Mutilation (Best of)

I hear people rave about the pixies, espeically lots of artists that I respect. But I only really know "Monkey Goes To Heaven" which I do really enjoy. Listening to the CD right now to see what all the hype is about.

  15. Coconut Records - Davey
    Jenny Lewis - Acid Tongue
Animal Collective - Fall Be Kind
Broadcast - Witch Cults of the Radio Age
Editors - In This Light and On This Evening
Spiritualized- Songs in A&E (late on this one, I know)

And the best one of all...
Julian Casablancas - Phrazes For The Young
